Understanding The Brief

For this project I have been asked to create a commercial brand for a modern styled bank, I have been given the choice to either re-design a current bank app or to create a new brand for my own banking app.

The demographic aimed at for the banking app is 16-25 year olds, I will firstly start this project off by doing some user research, mainly looking into in person and online banking.


Group Research

I was firstly given the task to go out and research into banking, with that being the branding or advertising and also asking a few people within the age range of 16-25 on what problems they might have with online or in person banking.

In the time we were given me and my group went and looked at some branding on the outside of some bank buildings in Belfast city centre, Here are some images of that,

We collectively noticed that each bank had its brand on a sign that was sticking out from the side of the building, we figured that this was done so people would be able to spot the building from afar and to potentially attract people towards the bank.

We also noticed that each bank had a modern styled look to the outside and inside of the buildings.

While walking past we also noticed that most of the banks were quite busy on the inside, so we wandered if the reasons that each customer was in the bank for could be sorted online?

I asked some people what the more common problems they face with both online and in-person banking.

The responses i got was,

Limited financial education -A lack of financial understanding

High Fees - The younger audience is subject to higher fees on loans, credit cards, overdraft charges.

Cyber Security Concerns - identify theft and fraud is common in this age group, if a bank educated its customers about online safety this could be fixed
