For this first project i have been asked to design a three screened unique music app, coming up with my own new ideas that have not really been used in any other music apps before, also, designing my own icons that can be used to navigate around the app.

I will begin this project by doing some detailed research on different kind of music apps, to try and gather some inspiration and to see what each of the apps i research do different from the rest.

Competitor Analysis

Spotify

Spotify is a popular digital music streaming service that allows users to access a vast library of music tracks, podcasts, and other audio content. Spotify is the most used music app in the world currently with over 210 million paid subscribers and 515 million monthly active users worldwide.

I myself am a subscriber to Spotify and the reason me and so many others choose to use Spotify as the go to music app is because of its many extensive features. With it having,

• Cross platform usability - Being able to stream music and podcasts on multiple kinds of platforms
• Personalisation - Spotify collects user data to provide personalised recommendations based on listening history, liked tracks, and user preferences.
• Offline Listening - Spotify Premium subscribers can download music and podcasts for offline listening, which is convenient for users who may not always have access to a reliable internet connection.
• Exclusive Content - Spotify has secured kinds of exclusive deals with certain artists and podcast creators, which provides users with access to content that may not be available on other platforms.

Spotifys main app layout really spans across four different screens, Landing page, Search page, Library and Player. I feel like all of them are really well designed and easily accessible, and that is obviously what you want for the app you are using. I definitely take inspiration from the layout of Spotifys app because i feel like i also want to be going for a clean and easy to use prototype.

Apple Music

Apple Music is again a subscription based music streaming service provided by Apple. It was launched on June 30, 2015, and has since become a major competitor in the music streaming industry, it functions in the same way as Spotify, both in the approach of the UI and also the subscription tier scheme, Apple Music were said to have 88 million people using their platform as of 2022.

A list of features that Apple music have on their platform are,

• Radio Stations - Apple Music includes a variety of radio stations, which features live shows hosted by DJs and artists.
• Apple Music 1 - This is a 24/7 global radio station that features interviews, music, and content hosted by various artists and radio hosts.
