I was asked to spend some time to research into some of these typefaces and too chose one to be able to produce a Type Specimen for this project.

I was asked to chose from a list of all of these older and modern typefaces,

Garamond, Bodoni, Caslon, Helvetica, Futura, Merriweather, Gotham, Proxima Nova, Abril Fat-face, Shirk-land

But instead of just instantly choosing one and moving on i want to spend time researching some of the fonts that i am un-familiar with and get to know what each of them look like in different circumstances. Some of the ones i haven’t heard or seen before would be Garamond, Bodoni, Fat-face, Shirk-land and Proxima nova however the rest of them i actually had discovered before in tech.

Researching Type-faces

Garamond

Garamond would be classed as an old-style serif typeface. Which was designed by a man called ‘Claude Garamond’ and he was joined by ‘Robert Granjon’ and ‘Jean Jannon’ in the creation of the typeface, you would find that the ‘Garamond’ typeface style is most commonly used for body text and book printing.

You could find the ‘Garamond’ font inside of the famous harry potter books, with it being used as the main body text for them. i also found that the typeface was being used on the logos of the popular clothing brands, American Eagle and Abercrombie&Fitch.

Bodoni

Bodoni is the name given to the serif typeface which was designed by Giambattista Bodoni who was a famous Italian typographer, type-designer, printer, and publisher in Parma through the late 1700’s.

The Bodoni typeface is a similar style to the previously researched typeface Garamond with it also being an old-style font and also a serif styled font. The Bodoni font has been brought to life by it mainly being used for the headings of some seriously popular clothing/designer brands, some of these being Valentino, Vogue, Armani, Dior, Calvin Klein and Elle.
