I am starting this project by researching into the chosen location which is the Titanic Quarter.

Titanic Quarter

The Titanic Quarter is one of the more exciting and modern developments in Belfast, with its historical roots which are connected to the city’s shipbuilding industry and most famously as the birthplace of the Titanic in 1912. The area combines history, heritage, and tourism, which makes it one of Belfast’s top destinations.

The Titanic Quarter was built on the site of the former Harland & Wolff shipyard, where the Titanic was constructed. Harland & Wolff was one of the world's leading shipyards, with the company employing thousands of people and built some other of the world’s most iconic ships, including the Olympic, and Britannic. The Titanic Quarter aims to honour this legacy by transforming the area into a hub for tourism and business.

The Titanic Quarter attracts millions of visitors every year, mainly to explore the museum that tells the story of the Titanic, from its construction to its sinking. Located next to the original slipway where the Titanic was launched, the building’s design is based off of the style of the front of the ship itself.

With there also being a new hotel that is currently under construction which is located on the Titanic slipways and right opposite the Titanic exhibition centre, this will increase a-lot of footfall throughout the area and it will help bring a-lot of new visitors from overseas to visit the centre aswell.

Idea

I had the initial idea for an app that would improve the visitor experience and drive engagement with local businesses. To help promote the area’s history and culture, and create a stronger sense of community. An interactive map features would keep visitors engaged, while the community and would show a positive and also a more sustainable connection to the Titanic Quarter.

Some features involved would be,

Using AI

Using AI, users could access the past times around the Titanic Quarter and when viewed through the app, it could maybe show some videos from the early 1900s. For example, pointing the camera at the worksite could show workers constructing Titanic, while the docks might show passengers preparing to board.

Game

I also had the idea of maybe including some sort of scavenger hunt that would encourage users to explore the Titanic Quarter, with them searching for virtual artefact's like blueprints, tools, or clothing that represents the shipbuilding era. Finding the items could unlock maybe unlock some facts, photos, and rewards.
