The first half of this class was spent listening to a talk on how to use the correct writing techniques for our dissertations, the three big things we looked into was, Critical thinking, Descriptive writing & PEEL Approach.
Critical thinking in writing means looking at information carefully rather than simply describing it. It involves questioning ideas, comparing different viewpoints, using evidence, and explaining why the information is important. Critical thinking also means considering the strengths and weaknesses of different ideas and forming a reasoned conclusion based on the evidence.
Descriptive writing is a form of writing that focuses on providing detailed information about a person, place, object, or situation. It uses descriptive language and sensory details to help the reader form a clear understanding of what is being described.
We were introduced to the PEER approach when writing, it stands for Point, Evidence, Explain & Reference.
First, a main point is made, followed by evidence to support it. The evidence is then explained to show its meaning and relevance, before a reference is used to support the information with a reliable academic source.
We finished the class with a group feedback session on each others early dissertation ideas, we done this for everyone to be able to get different opinions on their work and not just from the people they sit with.
For the idea that i put forward i was able to get some good feedback on it and areas on which i could look further into, like refining my research question as it appears to be a bit broad at the minute.

Todays class was overall a good one. Mainly because i got to hear some feedback on my dissertation idea, and i know what i should spend more time looking into. In got some good feedback on the references that i listed as they were relevant to the idea that i was researching into.
