In class this week i was introduced to the Fibonacci sequence and some of the main design principles which included Golden ratio, rule of thirds, Typography and gestalt images.

Fibonacci Sequence

The Fibonacci sequence was made by an Italian mathematician Leonardo Fibonacci in the early 13th century, The fibonacci sequence is quite simply a set of numbers that begin with 0 and 1 with the number line gradually getting bigger by adding the two previous numbers together.

You would often find the fibonacci sequence being ****applied to finance and trading, investors would apply the Fibonacci sequence through some techniques including retracements, arcs, fans, and time zones.

Golden Ratio

The golden ratio is a set of numbers that are equal to 1.618, some major artists would tend to use the golden ratio in their work because of its aesthetically pleasing features. Here are some examples of it being used in pictures and paintings.

i also experimented with the golden ratio technique by sketching some point, lines and planes with-in the circle.

The main point of that exercise was to look at the scale of each of them by using the fibonacci sequence to measure out the scale of each of the points, lines or planes.

Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds would be most commonly used in the photography industry. The rule of thirds is there to break up a photo or design into three different columns and rows with the main focus of attention in the photo or design being mainly featured in either the far left or right column. the reason the technique is so popular is because it helps draw the viewer's eye into the image and it then places more emphasis on the subject. Here are some examples of the rule of thirds.

Typography Hierarchy

For this particular principle i used a website called ‘A Visual type scale’ this website is a really good way of trying to measure out what type of scale you want your certain text to be as it displays sentences all in different sizes to give you an idea of what to choose.
