In todays lecture we went over various methods and techniques in which your research could be carried out when it comes to you working on projects.

I went off and looked further into the techniques that i thought were quite interesting and also the ones that i could see myself using when it comes to my work.

Contextual Inquiry

Contextual Inquiry is a user based research technique where the researchers interview people in their workplace or class while they perform real tasks. Instead of asking the users how they are doing their work, the researchers watch them to understand their behaviour and thought processes.

An example could be, if designing a University library app the researcher could observe students using the current library system and ask what they find difficult or challenging, and use that information to improve the app’s design.

Bias Research

Bias in research pretty much happens when errors or personal opinions influence the overall results, making them less accurate or objective. This can happen in any research process, from collecting data to analysing findings. Bias can lead to misleading conclusions, affecting the quality of decisions based on the research.

Cognitive bias is a way that we take shortcuts in thinking which leads to judgment errors. Instead of analysing all information logically, we rely on past experiences with the product, which can sometimes lead to incorrect conclusions.

An example could be if someone was an average user of an Apple product and they were asked which they think is better out of Apple or Android, they would lean towards saying apple mainly through the basis of that it’s the brand that they use.

Class Task

For the first task ww were asked to get into our groups and discuss each of the following,

What different sorts of people use the university? What might be their goals? What issues might they face?

Below is what we all came up with
