Week three mainly consisted of looking into photography, moving image, and arts and crafts movement. Even though they aren’t exactly related to the course i am studying it is nice and also important to explore into these topics and to be able to learn about them.
Photography
The worlds first ever photograph was taken by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, the photo was said to have been taken in either 1826 or 1827 but people are still unsure on which one with the background of the photo being from the upstairs windows of Niépce's house in the Burgundy region of France. Joseph invented a technique called heliography, the technique produces a one-of-a-kind image on metal plates which is treated with light-sensitive chemicals.
Japonism
Japonism is a term that is still used to describe the influence of Japanese art, culture, and aesthetics, particularly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This influence had a profound impact on various artistic movements, including Impressionism and Art Nouveau. Artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Edgar Degas, and Claude Monet were influenced by the Japonism. They often used Japanese elements in their work, using Japanese prints as sources of inspiration for colour schemes.
Art Noveau
Art noveau was an influential art and design movement in the late 19th century and had its peak of popularity around the start of the 20th century. This movement was characterised by its focus on decorative arts, architecture, and visual design. Art Nouveau was known for its organic, flowing, and highly ornamental style. Art Nouveau eventually gave way to other modernist movements, such as Art Deco and the Bauhaus, however Its impact on design and the decorative arts left a lasting legacy.
I finished off the class by starting some of my digital mockups for the type face specimen screen project,
