In the lecture this week we looked at Design and Strategy, and how it can create the solutions for problems i come across in research for the project.

Hicks Law

In design Hick's Law means that the more choices that users have the longer it then takes them to make a decision. To make interfaces easier to use designers should limit the number of options, and show only the necessary information. This reduces a-lot of time wasting and helps users find what they need faster.

“The time it takes to make a decision increases with the number and complexity of choices.”

Dark Patterns

Dark patterns are supposed to be design tricks that are used in websites and apps to push users into doing things they might not want to do, like buying something, or signing up for some sort of subscription. These designs are there to mislead and take advantage of interaction by users. Examples would be to include hidden fees during a checkout, making it hard to cancel a subscription, or using confusing words to trick users into agreeing to something.

Frame Your Design

We had a IDEO designed task, where i got the research that was gathered and used it to answer 4 questions. This is a very helpful task because it helps me to understand what is actually gooing to be designed for the project.

The 4 questions being,

What is the problem you’re trying to solve?

What is the key outcome you’re trying to achieve?

How Might We?

What are the important aspects of the context or constraints?
