In class this week i looked at the key importance of typography, for example, Building a Vocabulary, the letter, the word, the paragraph and text hierarchy. Also looking into grid systems and ways in which you can transform type.
I was also introduced to some big typorgraphy designers like,
Im going to spend some extra time reseaching into each of these designers to try and get some inspiration for my own work.
Willi Kunz
Willi Kunz is a well known Swiss typographer and studied in Zurich, after studying he moved to New York and found some quick work in a corporate design firm called ‘Anspach, Grossman & Portugal’.
In 1979 he founded his own studio in Manhattan, New York, his studio mainly specialises in print, visual identity, and architectural graphics. He has also wrote loads of books based off of design and typography throughout his career with the most popular ones being,
Wolfgang Weingart
Wolfgang Weingart would be recognised as one of the most impactful designers of the last 100 years. He was born in 1941 in a town called salemertal, in southern Germany, He attended the ‘merz akademie’ in the city of stuttgart from 1958 to 1960. While studying there he quickly familiarised himself with the likes of typesetting and the process of creating linocuts and woodcuts. He instilled creativity and a strong willingness for experimentation into the swiss typographical industry and by this he was reflecting this in his own work. Various designers have been inspired by his ways of teaching at the basle school of design and by his inspiring lectures.
Throughout his career he designed and produced lots of posters and books, some of the more popular ones being,
