This weeks lecture was spent discussing and learning more on usability testing. Usability testing is a huge and important process that is involved in UX Design, so it is good to continue learning about it and being able to test it out.

What Is It?

Usability testing is the process of when real users interact with a product, website or app, to see how easy and effective it is to use. It helps identify problems, improve the overall user experience, and ensure the design is intriguing. By observing users as they complete tasks, designers can make changes to enhance usability and accessibility.

Strategy

The strategy in usability testing involves planning and conducting tests to evaluate how user-friendly the product is. It includes defining clear goals, selecting the right test participants, creating realistic tasks, and using proper testing methods. The strategy also involves gathering feedback, analysing results, and making necessary design improvements.

Task

We were asked to get into groups and design some wireframes and prototype it, for the members of the other group to come round and test it and see how well it work.

We came up with our own scenarios for the participants to try and figure out when they were conducting the test.

The main thing that we noticed when observing the tests was that everyone was constantly hitting the wrong icon in the navigation so that was helpful for the team to realise that we would need to make a new icon that would make more sense to get to the desired page.

Reflection

I thought that this class was pretty enjoyable, mainly through spending time designing and working through the usability testing, i would like to spend a bit more time doing this in the future but maybe just conducting the test on an actual product.
