In class this week i was introduced to the printing press and its influence on the spread of knowledge in the western world, and i also learned about some of the true people of type design.


I was asked to spend some time researching some of the most popular typeface designers, the three i researched were,

I’ll spend some time trying to find some good information on each of the designers and see what i can learn off of them.

Tim Brown

Tim Brown is the CEO and the president of IDEO. IDEO is ranked independently among the top ten most innovative companies in the world as of 2023. Tim has earned various types of design awards and he has also exhibited work at ‘The Museum of Modern Art in New York’ and the ‘Design Museum in London’. He takes special interest in technology and the ways in which design can be used to promote the well being of people living in emerging economies.

Tim has also written a couple of popular books, each of them being quite a big hit in the industry and both said to be a good read, The first one he wrote was called ‘Change by design’, and the second being called ‘Flexible typewriting’.

Jakob Nielson

Jakob Nielson is a very famous web usability consultant and human–computer interaction researcher from Denmark. In 1988 Jakob was awarded with an PhD in human–computer interaction from the Technical University of Denmark, this PhD would eventually give him the confidence to co-Found his own ‘computer user interface and user experience consulting firm’ Named the ‘Nielson Norman Group’ with the other co-founder being called Don Norman.

Aswell as being the co-founder to that group, Jakob is also on the editorial board of the ‘Morgan Kaufmann Publishers' book series in interactive technologies and he would also write a weekly newsletter on web design matters and he has published several books on the subject of website design.
